Machines you might find in a typical gym Doing the Simply Stronger Program using machines like these, is much safer than using free weights, and even some machines are safer and more efficient than others. A proper machine allows you to concentrate on doing the movements correctly and not on your safety (dropping a dumbbell on your toes is no fun!).
Although the program can be done without a personal trainer, a trainer is always there to make sure you are doing things in the safest way possible, watching you and making sure you are in control of the movements and the weights, and if anything were to go wrong, the trainer is always ready to either stop the movement or grab the weight so that you don't get hurt.
