Diabetes How can exercise do anything about your pancreas?
Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which your pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or your body does not properly use the insulin it makes. As a result, glucose (sugar) builds up in your blood instead of being used for energy. Your body gets glucose from foods like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, milk and fruit. To use this glucose, your body needs insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body to control the level of glucose in your blood. - The Canadian Diabetes Association
Type 2 Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that can develop when either the body produces too much insulin (explained above) and produces too little work load (physical activity) or both. Therefor diet and exercise play a role in preventing or treating diabetes.
The demand placed on the cells and their DNA, during the Simply Stronger Program creates a change in the DNA which helps it to stop sending the cells messages to store fat called "de-methylation".
In a study "...genes showing the greatest change in methylation also tended to be those that had been previously identified as playing some role in fat storage and the risk for developing diabetes or obesity."

The reason exercise helps you lose weight has very little do do with burning calories.
Exercise improves insulin and leptin sensitivity, affecting your body on a cellular level, improving metabolic function across the board. When you metabolic function improves, your body is better able to USE the food you eat for energy, rather than storing it as fat.
Exercise is your first line of defense against insulin resistance.
